Under the shadow of wisdom

In the Portuguese translation, Ecclesiastes 7: 12 says: "For wisdom serves as a shadow, like as a shadow serves money; but the excellence of wisdom is that it gives life to its possessor." Apostle Sergio Lopes says that wisdom is knowing what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. When you feel anxious, afraid, in doubt, or powerless, enter under the shadow of wisdom. Instead of looking for something or someone to supply your needs or your lacks, use wisdom as a refuge. Entering under the shadow of wisdom doesn't mean to harden your heart or pretend you are powerful. It's to enter inside understanding. It's to enter inside what God has said. What you already know as truth. When you feel agitated, afraid, mistrusting or insecure, ask this question: "Where is the shadow of wisdom so I can enter under it"? Maybe that shadow is in trust, maybe it is in silence, maybe in courage, maybe in prayer, it's in something that will bring you peac...

What does it really mean to deny ourselves?

Matthew 16: 24 "Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me." I asked the Bishop of my church about her understanding, and thi s is what she answered: "Here Jesus tells us that in order to walk with Him, to be in the Kingdom, we must fulfill the purpose of God for our lives just like He followed."  Why deny ourselves? Because His Purposes are so strong that we tend to resist them. It scares us, we feel afraid. Our nature tends to be weak, we start letting unbelief dominate us. We reject the revelation of His will and start living according to unbelief. So we must deny our fears, our unbelief, our lack of confidence, and our blocking thoughts. We must desire to live what He planned. Sometimes it feels easier to just do it our way. It is more comfortable, less scary. So Jesus is telling us that we must deny ourselves if we desire to go after Him. We must face our f...

The trust of the birds

I wrote this post because the most accessed post in this blog is Let God sustain you . So I wanted to share some testimonies, including my own so you may have a better idea about this subject. Birds do not feel insecure, nor anxious or worried. They learned to trust the Lord. Even being fed by their parents in their childhood, they grew up knowing that God would sustain them during their lives. I've learned to be like them, Jesus taught me. I'm 36 years old and never really had a job. The longest time I worked in my life was for 15 days. God taught me to depend on Him and to trust Him like the birds. He taught me that if the birds are so secure because God shows them where to find food, I should be too. Jesus died for me, not for the birds, so I have even more reasons to live like a bird, I am more valuable than them. " Then He said to His disciples, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put...
