I desire mercy and not sacrifice.

Have you been making a lot of effort to succeed in something? Maybe in a relationship, maybe trying to please God, maybe bearing a heavy yoke in your job or in something else...

Jesus wants you to know that He desires you to have mercy on yourself. He wants you to know that He is actually NOT pleased with what you are doing. Because that is not the way of living that He designed for you.

"But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice." For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."
Matthew 9: 13

What Jesus is saying above is that He LITERALLY is not interested in the righteous. Because everybody is a sinner. So those who TRY to be righteous are not interesting to Him because He desires mercy and not sacrifice. He desires authenticity, honesty.

He prefers if you are honest with yourself assuming what you really want and what you really don't.

When you try to succeed in something with too much effort, despising what you are really feeling inside of you, you are making a sacrifice and not having mercy on yourself.

Jesus is saying on that Word that He did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance. He is saying that He prefers if you are totally honest with yourself, rejecting what bothers you, making mistakes, taking risks, than if you deny who you really are and try to be someone else, ignoring your real feelings about certain things.

Sometimes we may feel charged to be righteous. But true righteousness is produced by the Holy Spirit, not by us. When we try to be righteous we make a sacrifice and we miss what Jesus wants from us.

Righteousness is not about being always correct, having a perfect life, being a perfect example. Righteousness was actually bought on the cross for us. It is a gift from God. It was given to us.

How are you so sure that God is really pleased with your relationship? And with your evangelism? And with your horrible job?
What if He actually wants you to say "ENOUGH"?

Jesus is showing us who He really is with that Word. He wants MERCY. How awesome is that? He is saying that He wants your freedom and relief rather than bearing something!!!

Here He is saying it again...
"For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings."
Hosea 6: 6

Even in the Old Testament, we can see how He treasures that we understand Him and who He truly is, instead of blindly trying to do what's correct.

So today, Jesus is calling you to reconsider what you have been doing and the way you have been living.

"O LORD, I know the way of man is not in himself;
It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps."
Jeremiah 10: 23

Today allow Jesus to bring that good news to your heart, He is saying "enough of sacrifice", I desire mercy. I desire mercy on you!!! That's how you will actually please Me, THAT is my will.
