7 Factors that might be blocking you to hear God. (Affecting our intimacy with Him)

1) Idol.

When we let something turn to an idol in our hearts, we focus on that in such a way that our faith is sucked by a necessity to control the situation.
And then when God tries to talk to us we don't even realize it.
A heart without an idol is a rested heart, surrendered to God.

2) Unbelief.

To listen God is necessary faith.
Because He isn't someone in front of you that you can see talking to you. He speaks in a spiritual way.
His language is Spirit and we need faith to open ourselves to Him.
And everything He tells us requires our faith to believe in what He is saying.

3) Lack of wisdom.

God is wise. Have you ever heard someone very wise talking or preaching? It's not a common language, but full of wisdom. Full of words that need meditation to understand them.
When God speaks, He doesn't always speak a common language, but a wise one. It's a spiritual one. And to understand it we need wisdom.

Many times in the Bible we see God saying to some men: "Stand up, and I will talk to you."
He is God. Sometimes, we need to be prepared to hear Him. Sometimes, our lack of wisdom is not letting us understand Him. Sometimes, our thoughts are so focused on the things of this world or on carnal things, and we do not prepare our spirit to hear Him,

Ask God wisdom to hear and understand Him.

4) Disconnection from the Purpose of God in your life.

When we are connected to His Purposes, we stand in a flow of the Holy Spirit.
When we disconnect from it, either because of unbelief, hopelessness, sadness, pain, lack of vision or whatever reason, we become separated from having an intense relationship with Him.

How to know His Purpose?
First, it's connected to your deepest dreams, longings, and aspirations. He wants you to pursue those dreams with faith. If those dreams depend on miracles, do what you can to prepare yourself for it while you wait.

Be the most connected you can to that dream, or to the things or people connecting you to the dream, and God will speak to you more and more, revealing His Purposes for your life more and more.
God reveals His Purposes to us through His Word as well, through the Holy Spirit, or through anyway really.(God is God, He is not limited to anything)

1 Corinthians 2: 9-10
"But as it is written:
"Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God prepared for those who love Him."
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God."

Ephesians 1: 17-19
"that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power."

5) Lack of seeking.

God is not hiding, but He is Holy.
He is Holy, precious and valuable. So to have access to Him is necessary to seek Him. He is not that guy that you meet in a cafe once in a while. He is God. He is a King and He is on a Throne.
Humility, submission, and reverence are necessary to access His heart.

When we go on our knees, we disconnect from what's not important and we set our hearts to fear Him.
God loves when we fear Him.
He reveals Himself to us when our hearts are in those conditions. He talks to us.

"Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search Me with all your heart."
Jeremiah 29: 12-13

6) Lack of love for His Word.

When we love His Word, we value it. And we allow it to talk to us. We give permission for the Word to penetrate our hearts.
When we are not giving too much importance to it, taking it for granted, and ignoring it, we are devaluing God and His power. And we are cutting the communication between God and us.

"But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."
Matthew 4: 4

"Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth."
John 17: 17

"Your words were found, and I ate them,
And Your word was to me joy and rejoicing of my heart;
For I am called by Your name,
O LORD of hosts."
Jeremiah 15: 16

"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;"
Ephesians 6: 17

7) God might be waiting for you to obey the last thing He told you to do.

This one is a difficult one. Because sometimes, what He tells us to do we don't like it. We don't want to do it.
So we spend sometime disobeying Him. And then He stays quiet. Sometimes, He rebukes us.
But He won't tell us what is next until we obey what He told us to do. And sometimes we have to persevere in that obedience, we have to spend some time obeying that thing He said.

So when we don't want to obey and we think it's ok to just disobey a little here and there, we may not hear from Him. Or He may continue saying the same thing He already said and we start taking it for granted and even stop believing that He is really speaking.

Remember the last thing He told you to do and do it! After you obey it, He will give you new orientations.

"that the LORD your God may show us the way in which we should walk and the thing we should do."
Jeremiah 42: 3
