What is sanctification?
Many believers believe that the blood of Jesus already purified us from everything and we don't need to worry or do anything.
So what is sanctification?
The word sanctification means to be set apart.
God sets people apart from the spiritual darkness and fills them with light.
It's not religiosity, it's something that happens spiritually.
When we avoid garbage to enter our mind, for example, we are sanctifying ourselves.
Some people follow a lot of garbage (useless information, low-level stuff) on the internet, Social Media or on TV, etc.
These people don't know, but they are letting spiritual pollution enter their spirits and that is a door for the enemy. Besides removing the strength of their spirit and damaging their connection to God.
Sanctification is also related to our minds, not only to our flesh.
Of course that if we don't commit sexual immorality we sanctify ourselves too. (But this is quite obvious)
But when we do not let evil or foolish things enter our minds, there is a deeper sanctification that happens in our spirits.
When I say garbage that enters our mind, I'm not talking only about information or images.
Emotions that don't do good to us also create garbage in our minds.
If you think you have difficulty to separate yourself from useless information, start fasting.
This is how to fast in a healthy way: Choose one meal of the day and remove it from your day. Drink a lot of water during your fasting, and use the time to pray and read the Word. (Or at least, use the time to do something connected to God, even if you just go for a walk meditating on Him. Praying and reading the Word is better in my opinion)
Some pastors in my church fast for some days sometimes, for example, 7 days drinking only liquid (soup, juices, smoothies etc), or some only drinking water. But these kinds of fasting are indicated for spiritual ordained ministries who receive a Word from God to fast with a specific purpose.
So, Avoiding to look at or watch evil things, like about murder, in the news, for example, is a very important way to sanctify ourselves.
"I will set nothing wicked before my eyes;"
Psalm 101: 3a
When we do not practice sanctification in our minds, we become more carnal and less spiritual. We block our spirit from receiving revelations from God.
Sanctification in our minds is not only to shun pornography. It is to shun useless, violent or foolish information.
So stop following, seeing or watching things that weaken your soul, even if you think that those things amuse you or make you laugh, even if they seem harmless. Filter what you receive in your mind, soul, and spirit and prefer what is wise, pure and beautiful.
Doing this, your peace, your strength, your wisdom and your connection with God will increase.
