How to walk light, in Spirit

"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.

For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,"
Romans 8: 1-16

Well, this text has various pieces of information in it.

First: There is no condemnation to those who walk according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh. For who didn't accept Jesus, did not receive the Spirit of God within himself, therefore, he is still under condemnation. It's what the Word says.

Second: Those who are according to the flesh yield to the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit yield to the things of the Spirit.

What are things of the flesh? Heaviness, fear, guilt, lust, evil thoughts, in short, carnal things, heavy ones that make us stuck.

Things of the Spirit are faith, love, conviction, braveness, hope, in short, light things that set us free.

To walk in Spirit is to walk light, happy, in peace.

The inclination of the flesh is death, and the inclination of the Spirit is life and peace.
The inclination of the flesh is enmity against God because it cannot submit to the law of God. The law of God is love.

Only who walks in Spirit can walk in love.
Submitting to love, instead of submitting to the things of the flesh, that is, to selfish needs.
When a person walks only satisfying their flesh, they walk heavy, unhappy.

That text above also says that those who have the Spirit of God are children of God.

So, how to walk in Spirit? How to have the Spirit of God and become His child?

"There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”

Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’
The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?”

Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?

Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness.

If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is,the Son of Man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
John 3: 1-21

In this text above we find the answer to the question: "How to walk in Spirit?"

It is necessary to born again.

The one who borns from the flesh is flesh, and the one who borns from the Spirit is spirit.

That means, the only way to receive life in our spirit is borning again.

Once we believe in Jesus and receive Him in our life as our Lord and Savior, we also receive the Spirit of God in our spirit and then we are vivified.

When we born from the Spirit, we become children of God. We receive a new life.

Maybe you thought that everybody was children of God. It is not what the Bible says.

Children of God are only the ones who were born from His Spirit. The only way for that is receiving Jesus in our lives.

But why there are people who already accepted Jesus and were not born again?

Because they don't obey the Word of God.

The Word of God is the Door that I mention in this message: The Wonderful Door.

Without obedience to the Word we don't gain access to life, to the new birth. Without obedience to the Word we cannot see the Kingdom of God.

Without obedience to the Word we are not disciples of Christ.

"Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”

Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."
John 8: 31-36

What is to "abide in My Word"?

It's to remain in obedience to It. In obedience to the alive voice of God.

Notice that Jesus is saying that only after remaining in His Word is that we become His disciples, and only after that, we get to know the truth and the truth sets us free. (we get to know the revelation/truth of a situation)

In other words, to enter through the Door is to obey the Word.
We only know what is on the other side of the door after we enter by it. And we only enter by it with obedience to the Word. We must enter by the Door every day.

Which means, not all believers are born again.

That's why they cannot have a new life, even though on the outside everything seems to change.

It's necessary perseverance in the obedience to the Word, and this perseverance we only obtain by denying ourselves for the love for It.

We must love the Word more than our own lives, otherwise, there is no transformation.

We must trust that the leading that God is giving to us through the Word will be worth it, even if we don't understand or don't agree with it at the moment.

“If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple."
Luke 14: 26

What is "comes to Me"? It's to move forward obeying the Word. Because the Word is Jesus as we know it.

To obey the Word is to believe, submit, accept it.
To accept the direction that He is giving us. To believe in that direction. To submit to the orientation.

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. I am the bread of life.

Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die.

I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”

The Jews therefore quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?”

Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.

Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed.

He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.

As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me.

This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever."
John 6: 47-58

I liked a lot when I heard Apostle Sergio Lopes preaching that the flesh of Jesus in this text is His Word, and His blood is the Holy Spirit.

So, whoever does not eat the Word and does not drink the Spirit doesn't have life.

To eat the Word is not only to hear it. It's not to read the Bible every day and go to church watch preachings.
To eat the Word is let it enter your heart.

Those who receive the Word, pass from death to life.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life."
John 5: 24

So we walk light in spirit, first, when we are born again, second, when we turn to the things of the Spirit.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control."
Galatians 5: 22-23

Let's make the decision to turn to the things of the Spirit starting at this moment.

We need a light mind, we need joy, peace, love.

Let's choose to submit to love. To true love, where truth reigns.
The less darkness, the more clarity of thought. The more truth, more light.

The more clarity of thought, the more flowing of the fruit of the Spirit.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control."
Galatians 5: 22-23

Conclusion: Love and truth are the most important things to walk in Spirit and lightness.

How much truth are you practicing, living, exposing, communicating, showing?
