Are you eating a bitter thing?
"A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb,
But to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet."
Proverbs 27: 7
This verse is so rich in information...
It looks like a simple verse but it's not.
When we eat something bitter thinking it is sweet we are deceiving ourselves.
To eat something bitter in this verse can be a person, an information, an experience, a job, a relationship, words, attitudes, etc.
A person - we are seeing someone bitter as someone who is sweet. The person causes harm to us and we don't care about that.
An information - we are receiving a bitter information but for lack of good information, this information looks like a good one.
An experience - we are having a bitter experience, but for lack of knowledge, or experience, we think it is sweet.
A job - we are doing something we hate, or we are at a horrible job, but we are bearing it for lack of vision.
A relationship - we are bearing a bad moment of a relationship because God said we will marry the person, or because the person is our spouse, or because the person is our family, or any similar situation to those.
Words - we are hearing negative words, in social media, in a relationship, in a Church, etc, but we are not minding it.
Attitudes - we are putting our heads down to someone's negative attitudes for lacking knowledge on how to take action or react.
There are numerous bitter situations that we may be transforming into sweet or bearing as if they were sweet for being with the soul hungry or weak.
Loathing the honeycomb (or stepping the honeycomb, in the Portuguese translation), which is in the first part of the verse, can be to step on something very good that can bring us benefits but that we are doing that for seeing the bitter as sweet.
(There are some people who don't read the Bible and don't know the wisdom and knowledge they are losing... just a comment haha)
The satisfied soul steps on the honeycomb. This soul is satisfied because it is eating. It can be eating good things, that's why it is satisfied. But stepping on the honeycomb it's not a wise thing to do in my opinion. (or to loathe the honeycomb).

What if it needs to eat that honeycomb but only realize it when it's late?
Don't deceive yourself with the foods that are making you satisfied because you might be loathing a honeycomb for not being hungry. But a honeycomb is something excellent.
We might be ignoring the excellent for being fed with the good.
And we might be feeding ourselves with evil for lack of feeding us with good.
Sometimes we may be stepping the honeycomb also because we have been already feeding ourselves with honey.

Our soul is full.
Or someone is stepping on us because they already received too much from us. So we need to let the person feel hungry again instead of stuffing them with us.
Or someone is stepping on us because they already received too much from us. So we need to let the person feel hungry again instead of stuffing them with us.
Our presence, our love, our kindness, our goodwill, etc.
If the soul isn't hungry it won't want more.
If the soul isn't hungry it won't want more.
But we cannot exaggerate and let the person starving because they will start seeing the bitter as sweet. That is, someone bitter as someone nice just because we ignored them or something like that.
It's necessary to know the measure.
It's necessary to know the measure.
Are you being stepped on? It's because you exaggerated the donation of yourself to the person.
(I told you that the verse is rich in information... haha)
So my conclusion is the following:
Stop eating the bitter thing because you are becoming blind to the sweet things around you.
Start eating better things so you might reject the bitter.
Sometimes the bitter have turned sweet in our mouth or perception because we gave too much of ourselves and what was sweet disguised of bitter to see if we would wake up and stop going towards them. Or for simply not being able to take anymore really.

So whatever is the case, we will only see well the thing or we will only be able to reject the bitter if we stop eating it. But if we are hungry, it's better to satisfy the hunger or we will be back to the bitter again. But it's useless to satisfy the hunger with other bitter things, we must discern between the sweet and bitter.
We must eat the sweet.
And for you who is loathing the honeycomb, thing again. What if you need the honeycomb? What if you realize how the honeycomb was important to you but then won't have nothing left?
What if you feel hungry? Isn't better to reserve it? Isn't better to take care of it well?
May we step the bitter and value the honeycomb.
May we step the bitter and value the honeycomb.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
